Local Attorney and Long time Claremore and Rogers County Historian

Biography

John Cary is an attorney and community volunteer. John and his wife, Bobbie, have lived in Claremore since 1984. They have 2 children, Patrick and Elizabeth. He grew up in a small town in southeastern Illinois and received a B. S. in Finance from the University of Illinois. He moved to Oklahoma after college and received a law degree from the University of Oklahoma. 

John was a corporate attorney for 26 years with Cities Service Gas Company in Oklahoma City and The Williams Companies in Tulsa. Following retirement from the corporate world, he has practiced law in Claremore specializing in estate planning.

Both John and Bobbie are community volunteers and strong believers in Winston Churchill’s statement that “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” John was a founding board member of the Claremore Museum of History, Claremore Main Street, and Claremore Habitat for Humanity. He has been an officer and board member of Leadership Oklahoma, Leadership Rogers County, Rogers County Historical Society, Rogers County United Way, and Rogers State University Innovation Center to name a few. He currently serves on the boards of the Rogers County Historical Society, Will Rogers Memorial Foundation, and Share the Spirit. He has been a Rogers County United Way drive chair and chaired the Rogers County Historical Society’s successful effort to save the Will Rogers Hotel. John has been recognized for his community volunteer work by receiving the Rogers County Progressive Citizen of the year, Claremore Citizen of the Year, and the Oklahoma Community Institute’s Award of Excellence in Community Leadership.
