Born Helen Robson in Claremore, Oklahoma, in 1919, she grew up in a home that valued education, creativity, and hard work. After earning a degree in finance from the University of Oklahoma, she met Sam Walton, and together they built not only a family but a retail empire that would change the world.

At one time the wealthiest woman in America, Helen believed that success should benefit others. It was her idea to allow Walmart employees to purchase stock, giving them a true stake in the company’s success — a vision that transformed corporate culture forever.

Though her life was defined by immense success, Helen never lost touch with her roots. She dedicated her life to philanthropy, supporting education, the arts, and community development across the nation.

Today, the Claremore Museum of History honors Helen Walton’s legacy, celebrating the Oklahoma woman whose vision and compassion helped shape modern American life.
